Personal Narrative: What I Learned About Myself

1269 Words6 Pages

In this essay, I will show some of the great learning I have found about myself through nutrition. I have learned so much about myself, especially in the food groups and nutrients areas. I learned about myself in the food groups, physical activity, water, and sleep. One of my favorite activities to do is to play volleyball, competitively, or just for fun. I also like horseback riding, but I don’t do that much during the school year.

Some of the things that I have learned about myself in this project was about food groups, calories, and nutrients. To begin, in food groups, I learned which types of foods I eat a lot of, which are grains, fruit, and protein, and which types I need to eat more of, such as vegetables. For example, I learned that …show more content…

To start off, I learned that I get a lot of vigorous activity each week, with an average of 2240 MIE minutes because of volleyball and the strength training I have been doing also for volleyball. With all of this exercise, I met the goal for the week each time, in all day of the week. All of this exercise makes me feel great, and I have noticed that all the activity also helps me sleep better because I burned some energy that then won’t keep me awake at night. Finally, I have overall just gotten a lot stronger and bumped up my endurance tremendously with all the exercise. I enjoy doing it because I love volleyball, especially club, and I just have a lot of fun doing it, and am getting exercise when I’m doing it. Using the physical activity tracker on ChooseMyPlate.gov, my fitness result was that I am very fit and get a large amount of vigorous activity each week, and meet the weekly requirement for muscular and cardiovascular exercise. I also learned about myself through physical activity, and I learned that I am actually a very fit person with quite a bit of endurance due to all the volleyball I do, which also comes with conditioning for all day …show more content…

To begin, I learned what I can do to make me sleep better, and wake up feeling more rested and alert. For example, I learned that if I have a good amount of exercise during the day, I will be more tired and will fall asleep faster. I also learned that I get an average of 10 hours and 45 minutes a night. With this pretty good amount of sleep, I usually wake up feeling pretty good in the morning when I wake up to go to school. Even when I would have to get up super early to drive down somewhere for a volleyball tournament, I still felt rested because I am usually pretty consistent with my amount of sleep per night. To conclude, I learned about my overall all well being based on the amount of sleep I get. When I have to stay up late doing homework, I wake up grumpy and tired, and when I don’t have to stay up late doing homework, or I get to sleep in, like on the weekends, I wake up energized and ready for the day. I also just feel better overall when I get plenty of sleep. Some facts about sleep that I also learned are that a sleep deprived person can not learn as well, will often not remember things because sleep and memory are directly tied together. Also, your brain processes the stuff you learn during the day, when you sleep, so without sleep you can’t process or remember what you
