I laced up my boots, threw on my ragged blue sweatshirt and a Gold Country Seed ballcap. As I stepped out of the garage, the crisp air nipped at my cheeks and engulfed my nose with the sour smell of manure. A light morning fog hovered over the pale mustard yellow buildings surrounding me. The blaring tractors and bellowing cattle assured me it was a good day for farming. Working on the farm has taught me great qualities such as integrity, responsibility, and dignity. This is the place I love, the place I grew up, and would not trade it for anything. Brainstorming some ideas, I decided to build a four wheeler trailer for the job. I explored through our old, disorganized storage shed, and found two wheel hubs and some old angle iron scrap metal. With Dad’s help, I came up with some different ideas and drew up a plan on how to build it. My favorite part was the building process, I cut every piece to a precise measurement to make sure the trailer turned out excellent. Each weld was measured perfectly so my frame and hitch would be symmetrical and nothing would appear out of place. While painting, I added extra layers to make sure it would not rust. The frame was black, rims a creamy white, and to make it even sharper, I painted the hubs a bright international red for some character. After the paint dried, I rummaged through my dad's scrap wood and unveiled a couple two by eight boards, perfect for the bed of my trailer. Each board was cut flawlessly and bolted to the frame with an exact space of .25 inches in between. When finished, I constantly towed the trailer around the farm, even showing it off to my grandparents when they came over.
