Personal Philosophy of Health and Physical Education Quality physical education begins with the instructor. Research shows that quality physical education plays a vital role in public health. According to Masurier & Corbin (2006), “Physical education specialists delivering meaningful content and appropriate instruction must become the norm in the educational system in order to provide children with positive physical activity experiences that will lead them to maintain physical activity throughout their lifetime. (p. 44). Hence, SHAPE America 's National Standards and The National Health Education Standards both outline what PreK-12 students should know and do as outcome of a quality physical education program. Progressivism is philosophy that aligns with my beliefs about education. Progressivism arranges classrooms and schools around the concerns, curiosity, and everyday practices of students. When one walks into a progressivist classroom, one will not discover a teacher talking to seated students. Rather, one will notice children moving and talking freely. Progressivist shape the curriculum around the experiences, interests, and abilities of students, while encouraging them to work collectively and cooperatively. Computer stations should be available so students access lawful information, products, and services to improve their health. In order to get students more physically active, it is important that they hear successful stories from their instructors. Moreover, the students should get encouragement from the principal, the instructors, and the students daily. Students should be able to use goal-setting skills to improve their health. An environment should be created to where a student would not be ashamed to ask for
