Leadership
Working in the hotel industry in various managerial positions have taught me a lot of what such posts are all about, however, most of the time one tends to forget what leadership is all about when his or her focus in much more on achieving goals set by the directors.
I recall my first taste of what leadership really is, going back several years when I was still a young boy in the Scouts. In those days, I used to look up at the scout leaders as role models and eventually I also did go up the ranks, but in those times it was more the fun and play element of it all! When I started to work in the hotel industry in my early teen's things got a little bit different, I could understand that working in a team sometimes it was much easier following “orders” given to us by one of our co-workers rather than from the manager himself.
Nowadays through experience, I tend more to believe that not all good managers are in reality worthy leaders. As leaders, we should not push followers,

It was interesting to read about such styles especially when I could relate to my way and style of leading people. Through my experience, I can say that leading people in the industry is different than leading a group of students at ITS. With my students, I tend to have a more coaching style whilst in the industry it shifts to authoritative and pacesetting styles.
I have the tendency that when I first encounter my class I use a more authoritative style and jokingly I tell them: "If I ask you to jump … you should say how high!!" but obviously, this is all about breaking the ice. As time goes by my style of leading changes into one of coaching and democratic. However, I believe that self-awareness and understanding how my behaviour affects others is the first step. Knowing when it is the right time to shift from one style to another, sometimes even to coercive is the key to effective
