Over the past nine years I’ve been privileged to be apart of the Margate Players as an actor.
I started out in the adult shows when I was a munchkin before I transitioned to the kid shows. I’ve done the kid shows for the past seven years until I aged out. The theatre has helped me to become cognizant of my true potential. Because of my involvement with the arts, I’ve been a better student in school. It its true what they say that the arts help you to understand better. Throughout high school I found that my reading comprehension skills were sometimes very advanced and I was able to understand things I probably wouldn’t have understood if I hadn’t been involved in the arts. Being involved in the arts has also aided me in terms of memorization. Growing up I had a fairly decent memory, but because of learning lines in theatre, I have found that I have been able to memorize things quickly and easy. …show more content…

Because I’ve always been an actor, I’ve always had to play different parts. When ones an actor, they are looking at life through multiple lenses. I have found that I’ve been able to be open hearted and able to sympathize better with people because I can mentally putt myself in their place. The arts have also helped hold on to my core values. As I said earlier, I’ve looked at life through multiple lenses. With each lens I have to show constraint to not get lost in the character offstage. The arts have given me a sense of appreciation for vulnerability and helped me to understand vulnerability is a strength and not a weakness. Through the arts I have also come to be able to view life and understand from another standpoint and not to be so dogmatic about
