In my opinion, every student in America should be required to complete a sociology course at some point in their education. It not only can provide an unbiased education of our society, but it also challenges points of view and allows for students to explore and form their own opinions about their environment. By creating more sociologically aware individuals, unity would be more achievable for our country and settle the conflict we face. This is what sociology has done for me as a student and because of this, I believe other students should have the opportunity to experience the class as well.

I have also come to understand how changes instilled in the past have inspired women today to cause change for women of color, who are a disadvantage in our society. Because of this, my outlook on future healthcare patients has changed as well. I am now able to understand why there will be a difference in my patients when it comes to gender other than their sex organs, including their mannerisms and what care would best suit them. Because of I have become more socially aware, I am able to identify these patterns and stop them in my own behaviors as well as encourage others to follow suit. As a result of being taught the social conflict analysis of stratification within our society, it is easier to understand why groups that are considered minorities are angry and why they may be more uncomfortable when receiving care in a hospital setting. It is key to understand this, especially when exposed to a larger population such as working in a hospital in the city compared to a senior living community in a rural community.
