I will be studying in Florianópolis, which is located on a beautiful island south of Brazil. I chose to study in Brazil because it revolves around both of my passions. My first passion is soccer, or as the Brazilians call it, football. Soccer is the most popular sport in Brazil by a long shot. Because soccer has always been such an integral part of my life, I thought it would only be right if I studied in a country that lives for the sport, especially during the World Cup. Brazilian soccer players like Neymar, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho have all had a positive impact on my life that has shaped me as a person. Due to my parents, maintaining good grades has always been an expectation. Because of this, one of my academic goals is to graduate with a 3.5 GPA or higher. This program will definitely help me achieve this goal. By taking a business course abroad, I will be able to fulfill the W. A. Frank College of Business requirement without affecting my GPA, thus keeping it high. Since business has played such an important part of my life, I chose to study marketing for my undergraduate degree. Once I graduate, I hope to use this degree to open up and promote my own profession. I firmly believe that the local businesses in Florianópolis will teach me a variety of things that I wouldn’t have been able to learn in the United States. Being on an island, I will have many opportunities to ask some of the small business owners about their strategies for success. One of my most important personal goals is to learn a new language. While studying in Brazil, it will be hard to find an English speaker. This is because only 3% of Brazil’s population speaks English fluently. Being under these circumstances will give me an incentive to learn how to speak Portuguese. Considering how I am already fluent in Spanish and will be living with a host family, I am sure that by the time the program is over, I will know how to speak the
