A Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University Of Alberta School Of Public Health has the potential to aid me in achieving my personal and professional developmental goals of delivering health improvement outcomes in Nigeria. Nigeria is a country in West Africa that has immense human and natural resources; however, the country still has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world. It is also a country that is in dire need for innovative healthcare solutions for its rising population. Obtaining my MPH from the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health, an institution that is undoubtedly in the forefront of innovative and cutting edge teaching platforms for healthcare professionals will give me the tools to pursue my passion in public health.

There is a huge difference in the availability and delivery of healthcare in developed and developing countries. Developed countries invest in medical research and facilities and theses investments helps address community health challenges – particularly in preventive healthcare which might not be the case in developing countries. Therefore, my goal in obtaining an MPH is to see advancement in the healthcare of the population in Nigeria (a developing country) through Health Promotion and disease prevention.
