Hi Olayinka, I like that you mentioned that “prevention is better than cure”. Recent statistics reveal that too many people in this country do not have access to preventative health care required to remain healthy and avoid or delay the onset of diseases. A healthy life style helps us to leave a healthy life, reduce the cost of health care, as well as helping to prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The key to success for wellness and prevention programs is to make the resources for achieving a healthy lifestyle affordable and accessible to the general population. (Rose, M. 2014).

It suggested that people have control over their own health, such as having the choice to smoke or not, and disregarded the social determinants that may lead an individual to take up bad habits7. Regardless, using the health promotion framework during the 1980’s the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research was able to produce evidence of the health inequities present among Canadian populations that contributed to the push for policy changes to address these issues7. The Ottawa Charter, an international agreement reached in 1986 identified five key areas of health promotion that needed improvement. These action areas include building healthy public policy, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action, developing personal skills, and re-orienting health services towards preventing illness and promoting health8. Then in 1994, the Public Health Agency of Canada9 defined population health

Interventions may include developing safe and accessible recreational spaces, walking or biking trails, and promoting physical activity programs targeting different age groups. Collaborating with schools, community centers, and local sports clubs can provide opportunities for physical activity and engage residents in active lifestyles (Georgia Department of Public Health, 2023). Health Education and Literacy Providing health education programs that focus on nutrition, diabetes prevention, and management can empower individuals to make informed choices regarding their health. These programs can be conducted in community centers, schools, and workplaces, reaching a diverse range of residents. Collaborations with healthcare providers, public health departments, and community organizations can enhance the effectiveness and reach of these initiatives.
‘Health promotion means to have a positive attitude in the setting to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.’ One way children’s well-being can be supported by health promotion in the setting is by snack time. During snack time and lunch in my setting they have health foods which they encourage all children to eat. The setting provides balanced and healthy meals for the children. By giving children healthy meals and snacks it sets a good example and teaches children what they should be eating.
Health promotion is the delivery of information and education both to individuals and to the nation, which will help them to make positive lifestyle choices. It helps people to empower (take control) over the factors that affect their own health and so do something to develop their health and wellbeing. Health promotion cannot be forced on people it is done so that individuals are given enough good and accurate information for them to make up their own minds on actions to take that will make a positive change. What is its purpose?

Philosophy Paper I believe in the philosophy of trying to live leaving the world in a better place and looking for daily opportunities to do so. I value efforts with a ripple effect, in which one action can create many positive responses. These ideas parallel with my philosophy of health education and promotion to help individuals achieve optimal health, specifically related with behavior change and decision- making philosophies. My life philosophy influences my philosophy of health education because they share the same common goal and purpose, which is improvement and betterment.
In this unit, I learned how communication and marketing health promotion needs to be target to the specific audience to have a substantial outcome. Thorough assessment about the community and audience is required before finding the proper communication tools and marketing for health promotion. For example, communication about disaster preparedness would be different between young adults versus an older population. Communication and marketing about disaster to younger adults would be effective through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). However, for older adults, other sources of communication for disaster preparedness would be needed because less older adults utilize social media.
Health Promotion and Health Prevention are important factors in health care and therefore health care policy, politics and management. Finally to summarize my learnings from the course HCA 6280, I want to mention the top five ethical issues that are facing the future of health care industry. Second, the disparity in access to care is the biggest dilemma of the U.S. health care system. Third, Due to the increase in the number of baby boomers more healthcare professionals are needed than before to provide coordinated care for chronic diseases.

I have chosen public health as my major because it is a dynamic field. I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. My philosophy of health education is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities, populations, and societies. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public health.
