There is a lot to consider when pursuing a health profession. It has a wide variety of careers ranging from doctors to health administration. Health Care professions can be seen everywhere on the media from the popular show, “Grey’s Anatomy” to talk shows like the, “The Doctors”. This has exposed many to possible careers in the Health Field. However, in these shows and other portrayals has caused a misconception of what the health field is really about. The medical field is more than years of school, it is helping others and being selfless. What solidify my decision was my family and reach my goal to become a physician.

When a person becomes ill, it is a difficult time for the family. I remember the time when my sister had to be hospitalized for two-weeks. It was a tough time, however, I saw doctors and nurses working around the clock to treat her and help others. Seeing these people work hard motivated me to want to pursue a career in the medical field. I wanted a career where I am on my feet and able to help others.
My ultimate goal in life is to work with the American Red Cross and other organizations to bring healthcare to people most in need. It may be from natural disasters within the U.S or across the sea to countries with little to no health care. I would like to work in developing countries where people are suffering from treatable diseases. By being part of the medical field, I will be able to help treat and save lives.
What helped me understand what it takes to be in health Care professions was being a part of LaHSEP (Latino Health Science Enrichment Program). It was a summer program that focused on students who were interested in pre-med and other health careers. The program exposed students to subjects like Math, English and Chemistry which plays a big role in the courses required. But most importantly I got to hear medical students talk about their experience as an undergrad.
