Many people have a role models or people they look up to in their field of interest as they approach the life decisions of choosing a major in college. Whether it may be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or businessman, someone you admire inspires you and the value-based decisions you make on your path to success. For me, I have two role models. My friend Scott and my sister have always been by my side to guide me through life’s challenges and with every decision that I choose to act upon. I made a pact to myself that when I am older, I will surpass them. For ten years now, my friend Scott has guided me in every step of my FIRST robotics and engineering career. As an Electrical Engineer and Test Drive Engineer for Ford, his influence on my life …show more content…
Engineers apply the techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to design, develop, test, and evaluate software and systems. My interest in these fields has always been what drives me to do well in my extracurricular robotics activities. When I was three, I received my first LEGO kit, and when I was six, I joined my first FIRST Robotics League team. For over twelve years, I have designed, built, and programmed robots to compete on a local, state, national, and worldwide level. Almost every weekend of my childhood was comprised of either soccer matches or robotics competitions, and eventually, robotics became all that was left in my life. It consumed so much time in my life that I didn’t have time to form new relationships, much less keep up with some of my classes in school. But I loved every moment of it. Her leadership and commitment to everything she cares dearly about has convinced me to desire to further my education past Masters in the fields of Computer and Electrical Engineering after I graduate. Someday, I wish to receive my MBA and a PhD in Computer Engineering. Her existence alone is the greatest impact anyone could have on my life. Her mistakes have become my learning opportunities. “If I rest, I rust,” she used to say to encourage me to get off the couch. For eighteen years, she has been my inspirational figure and someone I can talk to when I need help. The most important lesson my sister has taught me is to be proud of myself and true to who I am. I can be weird or unusual to the eyes of my friends and in public, but at the end of the day I should be happy with the choices I make in my life and that sticking to my values will ultimately make me happy in this lifetime. How does sticking to my values help me in the line of work that I want to go into? My values help me to clearly and carefully make my decisions without a clouded mind. Without the distractions of the negative influences around me, my work and my goals will be much easier to accomplish. My sister showed me through her own personal experiences that sticking to my values will make it easier to find something that I love doing, and it will in the end help me be a more successful person in the long run. I have found that in the past
