Curiosity is one of the important components of every scientist’s life. It is the essential trait that motivates people to explore unknown areas, discover new information and phenomena, and create useful methods and applications. The development of my interest in chemistry began because of my curiosity. My interest can be traced to when I was enrolled in an introductory chemistry course in high school. I became increasingly fascinated by chemistry when my teacher passionately explained how atoms interact to form the basis of compounds, molecules and ultimately biomolecules of cells. As I progressed, learning concepts of chemistry became very exciting to me. While this experience had a major impact on my decision to major in chemistry, it was …show more content…

While I was uncertain about my decision, I am happy that I chose to study chemistry. Learning more about the many ways that chemistry is involved in our everyday lives in college courses made me want to become a part of it. My love for this scientific field has inspired me to pursue a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry upon my graduation. I hope to apply my future education to perform research to discover novel data that can lead to potential applications in medicine or healthcare. My main research interest is in biochemistry, especially the various roles of proteins. Since April of 2017, I have chosen to conduct research with my mentor, Dr. Subir Nagdas. His research focuses on the functions and interactions of mammalian sperm proteins. This project was interesting because of its potential applications in improving fertility in cattle industry and eventually in humans. In addition, it changed my perspective about the influential …show more content…

The FSU-RISE program is a STEM program that prepares undergraduates for graduate school education. During my first year, I receive basic research training through weekly biotechniques workshops. I have performed hands-on research techniques such as DNA transformation, gel electrophoresis, cell culturing, media preparation, protein chemistry and more. Furthermore, I attend enrichment seminars and workshops that develop professional skills that help me to interpret and convey scientific information using presentations and other
