A career as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a natural extension of my personal, educational, and research experiences. Although my path to nursing has not been a straight line, every experience that put me on this path has shaped my passion and dedication to psychiatric nursing. After losing loved ones to suicide at a young age, I made a promise to myself and to them that I would dedicate my life to helping individuals struggling with mental illness. This promise led me to study Psychology at UC Berkeley, where I fell in love with clinical research investigating the efficacy of treatments for mental illness.
I am a firm believer that in order to be happy and successful, you need to have a job that you love to do. This ideology is what motivated me to want to become a nurse practitioner and help the people in my community. Attending California State University, Los Angeles is allowing me to pursue my academic goal of getting into the nursing program. I aspire to get my bachelors of science in nursing to be able to become a registered nurse. After gaining experience as a registered nurse, I will pursue a master of science in nursing to become a nurse practitioner.
I am an experienced hardworking, reliable and motivated Senior Nurse. I lead by example and thrive on challenges. I am able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and this is evident when working well within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). I have worked in Alder Hey children’s Hospital for fourteen years, working initially within the Oncology unit for eight years were I acquired a vast knowledge of sepsis.

As a nurse educator, I will express my passion for teaching by incorporating features such as clinical assessments, practical application of theory, evaluation, and role modeling into advanced nursing practice, from previous experiences and current experience and clinical practicum to find success and gratification in students chosen profession as well empowering leaners to develop their own strengths, beliefs, and personal attributes to become a good professional. During my nursing senior practicum, I have experienced significant growth and achieved several accomplishments that have shaped me into a more competent and confident nursing professional. One of my primary objectives during the practicum was to enhance my clinical skills. Through hands-on experience and under the guidance of skilled preceptors, I have developed proficiency in performing various nursing procedures, such as administering medications, wound care, and patient assessments. I am now more comfortable and competent in providing direct patient care. Throughout the practicum, I have been exposed to a diverse range of clinical scenarios, which have allowed me to expand my knowledge in various nursing specialties.
Personal Statement Pacific Lutheran University’s Entry Level MSN program is one where I can pursue my academic and professional goals in becoming an agent of change for equity and access to healthcare. The emphasis on leadership, program evaluation and outcomes, and informatics during the post-licensure program ensures a strong foundation in which I would be able to apply practice and through the lens of healthcare and equity. As a current higher education professional with an initial intent to go into healthcare, I’ve identified my goals through several similarities and disparities between the two disciplines: to become a lifelong learner, caring for people and populations in high need, and being part of the conversation regarding universal design. Becoming a Clinical Nurse Leader necessitates implementation of evidence-based practices at the patient, family, and community level. To stay current on the evidence, it is imperative for a nurse to demonstrate an alacrity for knowledge and learning outside of the requirements for license renewal.
I don’t know what I truly want to be but, I know it deals with the medical field. I have looked at an RN, a traveling nurse, a post-anesthesia care unit, and a PICU RN. I have been stuck on a RN for a while now. After I got to looking I think it would be awesome to be a PICU RN. It is like a traveling nurse, but it pays a lot better than a traveling nurse.
You walk in the door, you see wheelchairs, walkers, and canes everywhere in a quiet lobby with seniors that are resting their eyes, chit chatting or just watching the world go by. This is what I experience every Friday, since the summer of 2015, at Alden of Waterford healthcare facility. This experience is where my passion has grown to become a nurse, and where I have decided to improve healthcare by trying to give individual and necessary resources to as many people as possible. Since I have been attending this home, I have gained an abundance of knowledge about my self-concept.
I am currently employed as a registered nurse in mental health on a full time permanent contract. I have 10 years post registration experience as a registered nurse during which time I have acquired a great wealth of knowledge and clinical experience in different areas of nursing. I have worked in Mental Health for 3 years with much experience in Older adult and some in adult mental health units. Prior to this I worked for 6 years in an aged care facility in Port Kennedy. I dealt with clients with Dementia, behaviour problems and generally geriatric patients.
I have dedicated the last ten years of my life to multi-disciplinary self-discovery, and I hope to share my learnings to help others become the best versions of themselves. By exploring other fields, such as working as a nurse’s assistant, a massage therapist, and a yoga instructor, I’ve had the joy of holding space for people, in a vulnerable area. Holding space with a deep sense of empathy is my biggest strength. I enjoy meeting people where they are at, and working in collaboration to move them forward in a way feels authentic to them. Emphasizing and celebrating individuality and uniqueness is at the forefront of all the work I intend to do.
In the status quo, there are countless evident problems, and all of them can never be solved. The people we live among, our society, make us who we are. For me, my identity is my community, and so, I believe it is each and every one of our duties to further ourselves through bettering the world around us. Thus, my long-range goal is to help the general population in the future, and for me, this would be through science. Diseases are always emerging, viruses are always adapting, and infections are always getting more potent.
The first day I stepped onto the floor, I felt overwhelmed and I questioned myself if I was meant for this line of work. I was assigned 14 patients. Soon after interacting with all my patients, my perspective and doubts changed. After leaving for college; I started my college days as a full time pre-nursing student. I continued to work as a CNA and
Imagine walking in to your work place, you have been assign a unit to work in, depending on the staff availability there might be 2 to 3 people to a unit. Each person is assign a nurse to work with and when one tech goes on break the other have to cover that section as well. The nigh is starting fine but all of the sudden you find yourself in both section being pulled left and right working. Then finally you stop to look around and there you are the only tech in the unit. With the line of job that you are in when you are ask to do something you cannot say no because you are dealing with patient who are in need of medical assistance.
Thomas, I agree with you, nursing would be almost impossible without nursing assistants. Throughout my nursing career, I have worked with several nursing assistants that are tremendous and a great asset to the nurse. I have also worked with a couple of nursing assistants that could take some advice and training from those tremendous nursing assistants. Having said that, my job as a nurse is dependent on the nursing assistant and we all should work together for what is best for the patient, for they are the ones who we are caring for and they should be of the utmost importance.
To make the most of my associate degree I must obtain a position such as Pharmacy Technician to continue to pursue my goal as an RN, with the many opportunities this organization has to offer I feel secure that my journey is on the right path. Helping people is a passion of mine; a career in the healthcare industry fits me ideally. The field is always in demand for qualified and caring individuals who are prepared to put forth their best efforts to help others. A Nursing Assistant is a basic level position that will permit me the chance to help other people, and gain experience within the health care field. There are training programs that will allow me to earn my CNA qualifications as I pursue my career goals.
