In eighth grade I was given an extra credit assignment to write a poem for Ms. Wagner’s Humanities class. I decided to write it about Ms. Wagner herself. After turning in the poem she approached me and began to cry as she thanked me for the sweet poem. She told me how thankful she was for the recognition and she explained that she teaches so that she can make an impact on students just as she did me. That was the moment I realized I wanted to be a teacher. I have had a few teachers in my life who have made a significant impact on my life. They passed on wisdom and advice that I take with me everyday. It is those teachers that I, as a student, can see that they care about their job. They enjoy doing what they do and they aim for our success and growth not their paycheck.

I want to be a teacher that motivates kids to come to school everyday. I want to continue to support my community and I have always enjoyed working with children. I’ve volunteered for my school district a total of 162 hours in the last four years. I’ve always enjoyed helping people especially children and I enjoy the idea of meeting new people each year. I’ve always been amazed at how big of an impact teachers can have on students, after all, they do spend their first 17 years around them. Teaching is one of the few jobs that comes with such a great reward. I admire the passion that teachers have to do what they do. I believe that teaching will give my life meaning. I want to do something that has a ripple effect and will stay in other’s lives and hopefully be passed on to others.
