Teaching is an ideal career for me because it presents the opportunity to shape minds and change lives. I have always wanted to be influential to students like multiple great teachers have done for me. Teachers are arguably one of the most detrimental occupations in our society today. We, in a way, raise the next generation of children in our classrooms, so it is our job to be as forward-thinking and progressive as possible, to ensure that students thrive to their full potential. I did not live in a steady, safe environment for a large part of my life; so naturally, going to school was my haven. It was the only place I could go to get away. If we made education equally as important and helped students realize that it is a key factor in obtaining both money and success, they would be more likely to go the extra mile to do well in school, and maybe even get a college education. Right now, there are students not giving any effort at all towards getting their high school diploma because they know that there are jobs they can get with just a GED. They seem to think that they can become millionaires working a minimum-wage job, part-time. Teachers are underappreciated, underpaid (“Why Teachers’ Salaries Should be Doubled”), and undermined. Despite all of this, they do their best to make sure that their students get the best. It takes an insane amount of school, a plethora of methodology classes, and an indescribably large amount of patience to get the piece of paper that opens up countless doors for a successful future. It is all well worth the work, though. Being able to see the changes you are making, the knowledge you are sharing, and the lives you are changing makes all of the work look less like a chore and more like an obstacle. I cannot wait to get my schooling done so I can have my own classroom with my own students, curriculum, and memories to make. I will make sure that my students are aware of their potential, and will do everything I can to help them make strides in the
