A large group of students in the United States makeup a large population of English language learners. Students who are considered English language learners undergo many challenges in their education, and without the necessary support and resources from their educators it can make it hard for them to succeed. A teacher plays a significant role in the success of a child, and it is crucial for them to be able to provide the proper education to students whose first language is not English. It is also very important for teachers to understand the challenges that these students are facing. Having empathy towards the students allows for the teacher to create better connections and relationships to better help them.
I myself am native speaker, and English is my second language, but if it would be me the kid who goes to school in America and everything I study at school is in english and not related to me in anyway, whether it is my language or my history then, of course I would need to learn my native language because I don’t live my homeland and this is my school now that will teach who I would be tomorrow, So yes I agree and support the school system that offers teaching kids their Native Language, because they are teaching kids who they are. I was doing observation at Minnesota Math and Science Academy “Charter School” for my other Education Class, and while I was observing their I realized that 80% of the students at the school belong to same ethnicity background, and I happen to the same question whether they teach kids their native language or
Reflecting on my preceding experiences in education, I acknowledge the immense impact that teachers cause on the lives of their students. I recognize that the knowledge and skills collected in the classroom, will be utilized by students throughout life. As a teacher, I aspire to be a role model that resonates with young people. My goal is to maintain an open mind, the ability and knowledge to view the world critically, and the confidence in my capacity to make positive contributions to our society. Bearing this goal in mind, I am applying for admission into the Graduate School of Education in Elementary and Special Education program.
This class was interesting as it was the first time I taught about when I would actually be teaching in the school. It became a bit more real when we were discussing what kinds of activists we would do when we are in the classroom and what challenges we might face. To be an effective teacher, there will always be some challenges. One challenge is to be responsive to students feelings and to our own feelings, as students may say things that I might not like and I don't want a classroom full of conflict.
In order for me as a teacher to know the needs of each and every learner in my class I need to fully engage all of them in my learning processes. Most of all I need to have open ears to hear out my learners grievances or issues that they are concerned about. Each and every learner in my class should be my first priority. I will always make sure that I recruit their interests in everything that I do or say in their class presence. In order for me to make them more interested in my teaching skills I will connect what am teaching with the happenings of real life to grab their interest.
My personal goal as a future educator in my classroom, is to challenge students to help them achieve success and watch them grow to their full potential. I want to teach students at different levels and see them work together and develop with one another in a way that benefits each individual student. For that to happen, group work is the key to my class being successful and is something that I value, especially with students getting into higher grades. The impact group work has, when students help and learn from other students, can change a person, and also transform the overall atmosphere of the class. Teaching young students is a task that can’t be taken lightly.
Teachers have the potential of being the most influential person in the classroom. In order to influence the students, a teacher should be accessible so the students feel free to engage you on any topic. Students who walk in the classroom without desiring to know what you are going to say and do are the least motivated students. Something important to focus on is to use different instruction or teaching strategies that are better for different students' needs since not every student is at the same level. Every student learns a different way, so being able to recognize how a student learns and becomes motivated to learn is a very important thing in becoming a teacher.
I had the honor of coming into teaching during my undergraduate education. I began working as a volunteer at a local elementary school. I initially came in to mentor children in the school's after-hours program. This school was in a particularly impoverished area in the city. In working with the students, I found that they lacked many of the necessary resources needed to move through the school day.
As a future Biology teacher I hope to inspire my students to be curious about the world around them, to apply what they learn in and outside the classroom, and to continually challenge themselves to explore and learn more. This is why I have decided that when I start teaching I will maintain an interactive classroom. Furthermore, I believe that all teachers should teach through active experimentation; this can allow all the students to learn through their own experience. Also, the core curriculum use in schools should be academic rigorous so that all students can be challenged, however in their own level of capacity.
I wanted to teach wellness and health because I want to help people understand themselves and their body. My preferred path of teaching is to be a coach and a math teacher. I want to teach children how to take care of their bodies and how to live healthier lifestyles. My objective as a teacher is to put my students first and to be the big part of their lives and chooses. My students should expect that I have their best intentions in heart and will help them no matter what the circumstances.
Today, 39 million people have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict or natural disaster. 10 million are refugees and 29 million are internally displaced persons. People displaced inside their countries face the same hardships as refugees but lack protection under international law. Usually victims of war and oppression flee in large numbers, arriving in poor, underdeveloped states without the means to care for them. Making the situation worse, the conflict that forced them from their homes may destabilize the region in which they've sought refuge.
Like most people, I think having a teaching job is desirable because of its easy work hours and long vacations that other jobs don’t usually offer. Having a two-month break every year is one of the greatest perks of being a teacher. Teaching is also a pretty stable job to have. I feel like teachers would still be in demand even in the most unstable economy. I thought I enjoy teaching because of these advantages.
Education is a two-way street. As a teacher I give the information, and the students receive it. The students then give feedback on my teaching, by comprehending the lesson, or not. In thins sense education is a two-way street. As a teacher I give the information, and the students receive it.
I believe that teaching must be a student-centered process that is catered to fit the needs of the individual. My opinion is that the fundamental goal of teaching is to nurture learning, and every individual I work with has the capacity to learn if given the opportunity. If an individual is struggling to learn something, it is up to me to adjust my teaching so that the individual can learn. My role as a teacher involves providing the appropriate resources to the individuals I work with in order for them to better comprehend the materials and concepts that are presented. When there are barriers that interfere with the person’s ability to comprehend material, it is my job to identify and remove the obstacle.
Fortunately, I have an extremely rich heritage in the area of education. My parents were both educators as well as my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and several other is my extended family. Some of my earliest memories are helping my mother and father in their classrooms. I can remember putting up bulletin boards and placing seats in order. It was one of the most exciting times of the year when we were preparing to go back to school.
