Teachers have the potential of being the most influential person in the classroom. In order to influence the students, a teacher should be accessible so the students feel free to engage you on any topic. Students who walk in the classroom without desiring to know what you are going to say and do are the least motivated students. Something important to focus on is to use different instruction or teaching strategies that are better for different students' needs since not every student is at the same level. Every student learns a different way, so being able to recognize how a student learns and becomes motivated to learn is a very important thing in becoming a teacher. I worry that too much of what kids experience in school is skimming along the surface of knowledge and never really plunging in. Some teachers say, “make it simple,” but I think my job is keeping it complex. And to do that, I need to see that, in many instances, “less is more”; that is, covering a zillion items may not be as rewarding as pursuing something fully, deeply, truly, and well”(105). In most classrooms there will be students who will say they do not wish to be there and do not want to learn. I think that going the extra distance for students is very important. Something that is of importance in a classroom is the use of longer assignments and reduced emphasis on filling the day with multiple, shorter tasks. Also, it is important for most of assignments or tasks to involve student choice. I think that this would allow for both the students and the teacher to go farther in the curriculum. I think there should still be a limited range of the topic choices, but it gives students more of an option to do what they are comfortable with. These things are; goal setting, prioritization, and relationships. Goal setting and prioritization are crucial because it helps a teacher focus on what is important in the classroom and in the students learning. Building relationships is also crucial because this is where value comes between the students and the teacher. Most often students value how the teacher treats them or how well they know them more than what they are learning in the classroom. Separating straight curriculum based teaching from teaching and building student-teacher relationships together is what can determine a student's success or
