I have always had a passion for making a difference in others’ lives. From a young age my aspiration has to become a teacher, but I was not sure what level of education I would be best suited in. All through high school, I was involved in Best Buddies and Allied Sports which worked solely with students with disabilities. It brought me great joy to see them happy when people cared about them and even simply talked to them. It was not until about the end of my junior year in high school, I decided to explore different areas of education my senior year. A course that really stuck out to me was “Peer Assistant and Tutor,” which allowed students to work one-on-one with a student that had a disability in a classroom setting. I was assigned as a teacher to John, a student who had moderate to severe Autism. Through close teacher-student interaction with John, I gained experience on how to work with student who had disabilities. I was able to see how he reacted to numerous different learning styles that I taught him. It was heartwarming for me to be able to see him succeed and taking things that I taught him and apply them. I believe that the Watson School of Education will allow to grow as a student here at University of North Carolina Wilmington because of the rigorous courses and their core sets of values for all professionals. It will allow me to take my knowledge from the classroom and use it during my student-teaching and when I become a teacher in the state of North Carolina. I personally believe that UNCW will be able to offer me a new opening to my intended career and challenge me throughout to become the best teacher that I can
