Personal Statement: Why I Am Deserving Of A Scholarship

I am writing this letter to explain who I am and why I am deserving of a scholarship. To do this I must tell you why I am attending college in the first place. Neither my mother nor my father has a college degree. Both of them went to college and were close to finishing, but could not due to costs. It was tough for them both to go to out of state college. After they could not afford it anymore they dropped out. My parents decided to start jobs and a family instead. I want to finish college, unlike my parents. Next year I will be a junior and will be just shy of the “finish line”. My goal is to get my degree in Special and Elementary Education. My mom always talks about going back and finishing college, and maybe me getting my degree with inspire her to finally get hers. With my degree I

I want to help kids and inspire them to reach their full potential. Every time I tell someone what my major is, they say I must have a lot of patience to want to work with the special needs. I agree with them. I want every single child to reach their potential, no matter what their mental capability is. When I was in first grade my teacher inspired me to become a teacher, and I want to do the same. I want the next generation to have more opportunities in life through education. Everyone knows how expensive college is and how little a teacher make, so if I can decrease my student loan amount, even just by a little, it will make life as a teacher easier. A monetary award can do this for me. It can help me decrease the amount of my student loans at the end of my college years. Getting a scholarship would be huge help for my family and me. I went to community college my first year to save money. I had to transfer to Northern Arizona University after one year because at my community college they defunded the education classes.
