Becoming a teacher is one of my highest aspirations since freshman year. In my school, they have us choose our “degree plans” in 8th grade. In my mind, all I thought was “how am I supposed to know what I want to be?” I ended up choosing the education route of the degree plan, not even sure if I wanted to be an educator. Once I was able to get involved and learn about the program, I started to love education. I was able to get 3 years of teaching experience in a classroom of student teaching. The time I spent student teaching is more than the average amount of time and opportunity that a college student may even get. Also got to experience field trips, taking over the classroom when there's a substitute and getting insight on the education view of everything. This leads me into my club TAFE, which stands for Texas Association of Future Educators and I am president for my senior year. This club helps prepare us for the teaching profession and has competitions that I have the amazing opportunity to compete in. I was able to learn how to do lesson plans and teach classes in all different environments. The first time I did a lesson plan was my freshman year and that’s the reason why I want to be a teacher. When I got to teach it, I saw all the faces of the kids light up and I saw the impact that I could have on the children. At regionals that year, I achieved first place and moved on to state competition, and being a freshman, it was a big accomplishment. I am also president of the club called Best Buddies, an organization that creates lifelong friendships with people with an IDD (intellectual developmental disability) and includes them within the school and outside of school. I am involved with the special education program at Porter High School and I love all the students
