My name is Nyagnuot Timbek and I am a senior at Peru State College. I am currently pursuing a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice Counseling and a Psychology minor. I was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and moved to Omaha when I was two years old. I went to Bryan High School located in Omaha, NE and was a cheerleader all four years. Before graduation, I had no idea what I wanted to major in college. One day I experienced some tragic news; my ex-boyfriend was stabbed to death at a party when he was trying to break up a fight. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He went to school majoring in Criminal Justice and was going to graduate that same year. After that incident, I decided what I wanted to do in life, to study Criminal Justice and to help people. The facility is approximately, square feet and construction cost is approximately $ 10.8 million. Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility received its original accreditation by the American Correctional Association (ACA) in May 2000, and goes through reaccreditation every three years. Support services include food services, staff development, recreation, and records management. The food service department provides inmates with three nutritious meals a day. These meals are prepared with the help of inmates working in the food services department. All of NCYF staff is required to do certain number of training hours per year in the ACA Standards. All inmate records are held in the Records Manager’s office and are managed in a confidential manner. Inmates have the opportunity to participate in variety of recreational activities such as basketball, softball and church seven days a week
