In his essay about being a bilingual student, Richard Rodriguez makes the claim that a family’s language is intimate. As an intimate language it is unfit for use in school or in public and that attempts to do so demonstrate a misunderstanding of the purposes of school and the intimacy of a family’s language. To create this argument, Rodriguez recounts numerous parts of his childhood to serve as examples to support his claim. Rodriguez uses some of his examples to state that English is a public language. In one segment of his essay, he explicitly says that English is the language of society when he says “for it is now the sound that of my society,” (Rodriguez 12) his society being Americans.
The basis of his argument throughout the essay is that bilingual education keeps students from being exposed to the English language enough to begin growing comfortable with it. However, in this particular passage, Rodriguez claims that he felt more afraid being forced to adapt to the English language at school. He states that “it would have pleased [him] to hear [his] teachers address [him] in Spanish when [he] entered the classroom.” By being greeted in a manner that he is more familiar with, he believes he would have been more open to the people teaching him, and with time more open to the English language. Most definitions, however, focus on the roles that paraprofessionals play, namely, assisting professionals in schools (e.g., teachers, speech language pathologists, counselors) and providing services to children or their parents under the supervision of certificated personnel. Bilingual paraprofessionals are usually hired to provide educational services in more than one language, usually English and another language; help students in public or private schools, either in general or special education; and assist with students who may or may not have disabilities. In the essay Rodriguez challenges the idea of bilingual education, he takes us through his personal experience of a bilingual childhood where he talks about what he encountered in America as he attempts to adjust to the American culture, and how he preserved his intimacy with his family even through the language barrier. Throughout the essay, we soon see that his identity and success is tied to the place and how he was raised, his parents are a major part of his success. Richard Rodriguez was Born in a Mexican immigrant family, him and he’s family moved to California, so he had to adapt to the new and unfamiliar situation, where the culture and language is completely different, therefore making him feel like he did not belong in the American culture. There was something Richard said that was really interesting, he said “An accident of geography sent me to a school where all my classmates were white.”
A Lot of schools need more teachers’. The world needs teachers. Being a teacher will help students become more successful in their education. That 's why I want to become a teacher so I can help students understand the concepts of learning different material. That 's why it takes time and effort to finish a task from where you start.

The LAUSD district promotes cultural diversity and acknowledges the educational needs of the different communities that encompass all ethnic and linguistic groups in Los Angeles. The master plan was created to help English learners in LAUSD to acquire the English language and at the same time succeed academically. It helps you communicate with others in ways that you were not capable of doing before and helps with your self-confidence.
I want to have a job coach come in and work with my students a few times a month. I want to provide a service where I provide meals for my students over the weekends if they need it. I want to find a safe and open home for my homeless students to live in. I want to show my students that they can get a job and/or go to college. These are all my goals and my roles that I want to contribute as a teacher.
I would like to continue my education at Cal State La to pursue my post baccalaureate study and earn a teacher credential in mild to moderate disabilities. Becoming a teacher has always been a goal of mine, since I was young girl. I always known I wanted to become a teacher thanks to all the great teachers I had through my education in elementary and high school, who inspired me and pushed me to work hard because they cared. But, most importantly showed me how a teacher should teach and care for their students, making my experiences in school deeply meaningful. And because of all the great support they gave me I fell in love with the profession of teaching.
I simply want to be a teacher that makes a difference in the school. I want to be a positive influence, not only on my students but on other staff in the school as well. This article explained many great points that those six schools stand by in creating a successful environment for their Hispanic students and I, as a teacher leader, want to take those suggestions and use them and create an environment in my future school that is welcoming and accepting to English language learners. I truly believe that every child has great potential, they just need the proper education to be able to reach out and achieve their goals. As an elementary education major, reading about people who are determined to make a positive change in our schools is restorative to my hope for our students’ futures.
Jennifer, I agree with the book…”to promote bilingualism whenever possible, so that students feel comfortable within their language in the most things that they do within an environment”. The environment can be considered both inside and outside of the classroom. You’re right! This does mean that we should be just as comfortable with their language, as they are with learning our language.
I want to become a teacher because I was inspired by my hig school teacher when I was a learner, so I want to inspire my learners as the way my hig school teacher did to me. I want to become a positive role model to all my children because same children they don’t have a good background about how important education is, so I like to change that and gives them positive information and confidence about education. I like seeing children being able to enjoy the subject and understand what I’m teaching them. I want to become one of those teachers who want to take education to next level.
I want to teach because I believe that I can make a difference in today society to shape young minds. The reason why I wanted to become a teacher is when I was in high school I did not have a clue what I wanted to be and then I met this teacher who actually had my sister for a student. So basically she already knew my whole family. Anyways when I met this teacher she started to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and my responds was I have no clue, I am still experiencing things. Then she started to tell me about what she teaches, she teaches child development.
Having dreams and goals are part of being human, and the biggest way to be able to accomplish those dreams has to do with getting an education. Many people feel that they will be able to receive a better education in the U.S. but when someone moves to the U.S. from another country, not being fluent in English can be a huge barrier to being able to accomplish what one wants, and being successful in the educational system. Therefore, the people who are incharge of the education system have set specific standards in order to teach students who are learning the English language. Those initiatives work in order to promote the development of the English Language and standards that keep up with the subjects that the other students who speak English
