Oprah Winfrey once said, "There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It's why you were born. And how you become most truly alive." I honestly believe my calling is to help others. Experiences that allow me to study away from campus, conduct undergraduate research, participate in service-learning activities, assume a leadership position on campus as well as in the community and undertake an internship experience will all captivate and enhance my vocational goals to help others, as a doctor. Reflections on education, healthcare, science, and social work are also essential to help me achieve my vocational goals. I became the opposite of what I was subject to. Because of education, I was taught courtesy. I was never given courtesy, cooperation, or consideration of my feelings. The inadequacy of service in my life has taught me to treat others with respect. I collaborate on ideas to be cooperative. Because of education, I was taught leadership. Being raised in an unpredictable house never stopped me from becoming a leader. I lead with self-control to set an example for my peers and for the people who look up to me. Although I have not taken a healthcare class at Schreiner University, I, along with many people, have experienced what healthcare can do for an individual. Whether you have a common cold, a severe disease, or even broken bones, proper healthcare is always the answer. Likewise, my knowledge of science will also directly benefit my patients. The science courses required to major in cellular biology will help me achieve my vocational goals by teaching me the necessary requirements to pass the Medical College Admission Test, which will immediately benefit future patients. Once I pass the Medical College Admission Test, I will then apply to be admitted into a medical school. In medical school, I will proceed to study science. Ultimately, I plan on emphasizing that my future patients can have confidence that I am offering them the best medical advice. With the knowledge I have obtained from the science course I have taken, I can ensure that I will give my optimum effort to serve my patients. Social work, or community service, will teach me awareness, compassion, respect, responsibility, gratitude, and empowerment. With
