I entered this class thinking that I was going to have the opportunity to work along DHS. I wanted to have experience with this organization because I wish to work for them in the future. However, things did not turn out the way I wanted them to be, but I had the opportunity to take some roles at the Early Learning Center. I started working there my sophomore year and taking more responsibilities this year for my internship made me become more confident about myself. Before my internship, I was not aware of my capabilities as a preschool teacher, I thought, “how in the world am I going to lead a group of 17 three-year old’s?” Even though I enjoy working with children I felt like I did not have enough experience to become an actual preschool teacher. Having my one-one time with one of the preschool kids opened my eyes to the possibility of wanting to be a speech therapist or a counselor. I wish to work with youth, not just children, but also with high school students. Another thing, that I learned about myself while in my internship was that I would want to be in charge of a preschool in an underserved community to provide families with affordable “education” for their children.
