As a leader, I am very good at encouraging other employees to engage in new processes and to explore new ideas. Since assuming this position, I have encouraged my direct report and others to generate new ideas to assist with marketing the City. I have shown the ability to work on direct efforts with other City Divisions, Departments, and non-profit affiliate organizations. Examples of these efforts are the development of joint retention visit initiatives with the Downtown Partnership, St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, and the City's Electric Division Manager. I have been asked to help facilitate multi-organization events such as the Industrial broker tours and become a business mentor in the DSCP’s business mentor program. I have been able to offer timely and helpful advice to these commissions. One example is working with the Chamber’s Industrial Committee. I have become a valuable resource to this group and have helped them guide conversations to identify new areas of focus. I am consistently sought-out for my input on promotional initiatives such as the revised DSCP’s vacant window panels, and upcoming DSCP’s marketing summit. I believe I have become more adept at understanding my direct reports needs and the best way to coach them. In the past I noted that I was sometimes get pre-occupied by my own duties or providing feedback only when the a situation requires the conversations. This year I have made a very conscious effort to work more with my direct report via bi-weekly meeting and tracking talking points in a notebook. A few examples include: • Revisiting a CVB invoice was sent to our division by mistake. After some time had passed, I made sure Karla and I discussed this item, even though she performed well, just to ensure she understood mine and the City’s expectations. • Informing Karla about irate customers that sometimes come into the building. I used this as an example of how to react to these individuals, but also to point out that sometimes supervisors need to be interrupted when the situation merits this course of
