First and foremost I am honored to have the opportunity to apply for this scholarship application at (Insert College Name). I started life on the wrong path by becoming an addict at age 15; my life was headed on a downward spiral from there. I have been incarcerated and homeless for more time than I rather count. I was adopted by my grandparents at the age of 9, they both passed away by the time I was age 20 years old. I have been on my own since their passing. I became pregnant in 2014 and that’s when I made the commitment to better my life thru education and I have adhered to my quest for higher learning. I am active in the Narcotics Anonymous program and have held various positions at my local home group. I want to spread hope and help as many people as I can to overcome addiction and homelessness by using myself as a positive role model of success. Fall, 2017 was my last semester at Norco College and I obtained an AA in Psychology and an AA in Social and Behavioral Studies both accomplishments I am very proud off. I have also maintained a prestigious honor of being on the Dean’s List for every semester with an ending GPA of 3.84. I am currently enrolled at Valley College for spring 2018 and I couldn't be more excited. This puts me on the steady path to achieve my desired end goal of becoming a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. In the above mentioned, I am a single mother and I am grateful to the following organizations Financial Aid, Welfare, SNAP, and CalWORKs for giving me the opportunity to attend College and fulfill my goals. I am currently just making it by affording rent and utilities. If a scholarship is granted, I would be able to maintain my college schedule and most importantly the ability to travel since Valley College is further from my current residence.
