Merriam-Webster defines health as the condition of being well or free from disease, the overall condition on someone’s body of mind, or the condition or state of something. Fitness is defined as the quality or state of being fit. I perceive the concepts of health and fitness as meaning eating healthy, being active and staying fit. My normal daily activities and routines help keep me active and fit and require me to eat healthy in order to have the energy to complete the physical tasks. This year I elected to enroll in the health and fitness project for the first time. I have been blessed with the ability to play sports at a competitive level. Since I have this ability, I have received awards that prove my hard work and dedication. This year alone, my team has won HOPL League Runner-Up in basketball, 3rd Place at the NWOSU Tournament in basketball, and Sub-State Champions in basketball. I personally have received HOPL Honorable Mention in Volleyball and Basketball and also South Barber High School Track & Field Hardest Worker of the year. As a team we attended UCA cheer camp where I was named an All-American Cheerleader. However, my greatest accomplishment from this year was the Kansas Class 1A Girls 800M Run State Champion! Being active and fit is something you have to dedicate both time and effort into to see positive results. I took up sports to stay active, and that is where the support for this project came. In sports you always have a coach; luckily I have been blessed with the same coach for about 10 years. He can be very harsh and demanding at times, but he only does so to bring out the potential he sees in athletes. He has always pushed me to be a better athlete. Even from a young age he saw the potential I possessed. Due to his positive criticism, I came into the gym or to the track field every day and pushed to perform the best I possible could. If it was not for my family, I would not have constant support. They attend every sporting event and cheer me on. When I have an off night and do not perform well, they always find ways to cheer me up. They also give me tips on things I could do to improve myself. Not only does my family support me, but so does the wonderful community in which I am growing up. They fill the stands at every sporting event and are willing travel the distance to away games to support us. Our community is also very generous in financially supporting athletes. They are always willing to help us with fundraisers for new equipment or uniforms. I could not ask for a better community than South Barber. The people who deserve the greatest praise would be my teammates. If these kids did not show up every day and strive
