I would like to apply for medicine because of its interdisciplinary nature between natural sciences, humanities, and ethics which are the subjects I am passionate about. Healthcare professionals were people I looked up to since I was a child when I often visited the hospital. It took me a few years to decide that I wanted to work as a healthcare profession. I also gained inspiration from a quote by Mahatma Gandhi: "Be the change you wish to see in the word.". With a community service center in Nepal, we went to a medical project from the capital city to a village when I was 12 years old. I went with my mother who was volunteering in the kitchen. The project was led by doctors with the main goal of improving women's health. With the lack of a local hospital or even a clinic and low financial conditions, they rarely visited a doctor. There, I saw a huge crowd of people not only from that village, but also from other neighboring villages. Although I was naive, I had the urge to change the horrible situation.
My dedication to human health started from my 10th grade year when we are to create a 5 month long project. I chose to make a pop-up book explaining the circulatory and respiratory system to primary year students. During my research, I was …show more content…

Our volunteering group brought art and sports supplies, first aid boxes, and provided financial support from donations. Close to the orphanage, there was a small hospital with one doctor and very few supplies. The villagers had other problems, including lack of potable water, sanitary and toilets increased their risks of deadly diseases like cholera. From my volunteering experiences, I learned to see people as individuals and have desire to care for them. I knew I wanted to study science but from this trip, I found that I would wanted to become a healthcare
