Physicians and surgeons examine patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. Physicians often work closely with other healthcare staff including physician assistants, registered nurses, and medical records and health information technicians. Physicians and surgeons may work in a medical specialty, such as cardiology, dermatology, pathology, or radiology1. This field interests me due to the shortage of doctors in certain areas and it is a way that I will be helping the community2. My grandfather inspired me to become a physician because he had always wanted someone in the family to be in the healthcare field. I plan on accomplishing this requirements by finishing my undergraduate degree and then apply for medical school which is competitive and is done my taking the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) 5. My first BRAVO outcome will be acquiring concepts, skills, and knowledge because every physician has to learn many skills and seek knowledge for the best of their patients. My second BRAVO outcome is respecting diversity. Doctors have to respect every individual no matter who they are6. Respecting diversity is in the Oath of Physicians and they have to acknowledge that. Cellular and molecular biology, CHEM 4440, and biochemistry, CHEM 4320, are two of the upper level classes I have to take. These two classes will teach me the fundamentals of how the human body works and how it reacts to different chemicals7. “The employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 18 percent from 2012 to 2022” (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). The only type of growth a physician or surgeon can have is the amount of respect they get for their experience and becoming the head of their department8.
