Hello Director of Financial Community Development,

I am writing to express my interest in joining the Advanced Financial Officer Development (AFOD) and building on the breadth and depth of FI-03 behavioural competencies, knowledge, and experiences to take on enhanced leadership responsibilities. As an FI-02 for the last 6 years, I believe the AFOD Program is a good opportunity for me to participate in three rotational assignments and be able to enhance my learning for further understanding along with action learning sets, professional development sessions, independent learning, and networking opportunities. I maintain Departmental Notional allocations as well as support the Departmental Business Planning Process with financial analysis. Before that, I worked as a financial analyst at DND at ADM(Mat) for financial services for capital projects where I kept track of the capital projects on a cash and accrual basis. Prior to that, I worked as an FMA at DND for the Innovation for Defence, Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program. The IDEaS program is a transfer payment program that is looking for solutions to support the development of defence and security capabilities. Before that, I worked as a financial officer in the financial advisory services for Real Property of Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) for more than four years. In this role, I have had the chance to perform variance analysis on the operating budget, Special Purpose Allotment (SPA) and capital votes for the Real Property Branch (RPB) sections of the Departmental Management Report (DMR). The IDEaS program was a transfer payment program that was looking for solutions to support the development of defence and security capabilities. I was involved in different aspects of this program. The contribution agreements were new to our program. It was the first time that recipients were supposed to receive money through a contribution agreement. The agreements were 3-year duration. When I started sending out the money, I realized the importance of tracking their budget, claims, and PAYEs. In coordination with program management, our client, I designed a tool in Excel that can track all these activities. There were 12 recipients. To be able to do that I had to get an understanding of the program and how it works. I developed my work plan and consulted with my colleagues in the program. I used their manager's feedback and the program's feedback to ensure I could address the needs of all parties. By doing that I was able to keep track of the budget, claims, and PAYE at any time for three years. Otherwise, with each claim by the recipients, there was a potential problem of over/underpayment. Moreover, I was able to keep track of their budget and reallocate the correct amount to future years if required. Getting feedback helped me to develop this tool. By learning from mistakes and analyzing setbacks, I managed to learn and develop this tool. I monitored the operations and adjusted and modified my Excel file based on the new
