I am interested in your New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. The main reason I chose to study the Diploma of Nursing is because I wanted to upgrade my profession and skills. I work as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) at an aged care facility, there I interact many Enrolled Nurses and see how different their scope of practice between a PCA and an Enrolled Nurse. Since I am young and working part- time I thought I would be best if I started this course as I could work and give adequate time to studying. One another influence that caused me to choose a career in the health field was my grandmother was a nurse in India. As a child I would always visit her during work and she would take me around the hospital and I can faintly remember the hospital setting and how it is so different now.
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
The outcome of my goal is that by end of December I will be more confident in communicating with doctors, CNA’s, charge nurses’ and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The outcome will be to communicate effectively and with confidence. I will start this week (10/26) by telling my preceptor that I want to focus on improving my communication skills, especially with doctors. Next I will delegate/communicate with CNAs at the start/during my shift during the week of November 2. I will continue to communicate with preceptor to gain feedback on improvements in my communication style.
I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to make a difference and help anyone in need that I possibly could. From the start of my childhood, I can recall helping my mother care for my great grandparents, so they would be able to live out the rest of their lives from their home, instead of in a nursing home. As a young child it was extremely difficult to live with and watch my loved ones deteriorate as they got older, as their condition got worse and worse, and saw my mother having a difficult time keeping up with caring for both of my great grandparents 24/7, it put a lot of stress on the family. However, I am grateful to have been able to help my mother care for them. Growing up in such a caring and loving household made the situation

My thoughts started wandering and I began to look into the health sector with a different perspective where growth continues and there are no limitations.
