When the odds are stacked against me is when I truly believe I am strongest. A scholarship would assist me in achieving my long-term goal of Social Work and being able to help disadvantaged youth overcome adversity. My grades are not spectacular, but they are solid. I am persistent and I complete what I have started.
I believe that I am qualified for this scholarship because of how much I have grown at Wendell Baptist Church. It has helped me grow in my walk with God through missions and through serving. It has helped me appreciate the little things in life like the slides during services on sunday morning. Showing me that the little things like that do not just happen and some people put a lot of work into making them happen. Wendell Baptist Church has also shown me just how great my life is and how the problems I think I have are actually not that big of a deal in the long run.
I firmly believe that i deserve this award granted by the Courage to Grow Scholarship. Education is greatly important to me and my future. No one in my family has ever attended college and I know that I can change that. I may come from a poor family but it is my goal to be successful in the career i choose.
I have been taught my whole life to work hard and never give up, not for any reason. I feel I exemplify scholarship the most, because my grades have always been very important to me. I do any extra credit that I can so that I can go above the average grade in school. I have maintained straight A’s for the year and I have even had over 100% in English every term.
I am the best candidate for this scholarship because I have experienced a hard and unwanted event, but I have grown from it and become a better and stronger person because of my parents, which will help me power through college and become a civil lawyer. My mom and dad although divorced, have supported me through every event in my life, making me the person I am today. Living with my mom, I have learned how hard it really is to do things that my dad would have done in a heartbeat. As I grew up knowing that my dad was not coming back through the back door as I hoped, I learned how hard life really is and how life is not fair.
As an individual who strives to make a positive impact in my community and academic environment, I strongly believe that I should be considered for admission into the National Honor Society. I make it a point to follow the organization's pillars every day. These pillars include Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. By upholding these pillars, I demonstrate my commitment to academic excellence, character development, and community service. Throughout my academic journey, I have exhibited a steadfast commitment to academic excellence by maintaining a GPA of 4.0 and participating in a multitude of advanced and honors courses.
National Honor Society is known for their members with great grades and outstanding character. I personally believe that I would fit into this club wonderfully. Finishing with a cumulative GPA of 3.6 and a 4.0 GPA last semester. With grades being the most important thing to me, I take them very seriously.
In total, I work about 32 hours a week and occasionally babysit in the evenings. Why do you feel you are a good candidate to receive this scholarship? I feel I am an exceptional candidate to receive this scholarship because I am dedicated to my sorority, I work hard to earn my own income, and I would be devastated if I could not remain a member because of a financial situation. I am devoted to my studies to earn scholarships to help alleviate some of the student loans I am incurring, but unfortunately those do not go towards greek life. This scholarship would be very appreciated and would not go unnoted.
Getting chosen to get this scholarship will me get more motivated to attend a 4 year college, and it will also help my parents. Due to living in a low income family, college can be very difficult. I come from a family where, we do struggle at times. Getting this scholarship will be an honor and will save my family and I money. My family is very supportive towards my career goals, which is to become a Register Nurse so I can help people around the world, and one day make an organization to help people whom also struggle.
Candidate Personal Statement: Why do you want to be a part of student government? I want to be a part of student government because I want to further serve my community within Flushing High School as well as support people I hold dear within the school. If I were elected to student government, I would want to unite the community as well as succeed in performing my leadership duties within the student community. I believe my previous experience in Bring Change to Mind (BC2M), Peer Group Connections (PGC), as well as my Sisters Keeper (MSK), has properly prepared me for this position as they have helped me build leadership skills such as the public speaking and a keen sense of corporation in group settings. These three services have prioritized giving back to the community and further supporting Flushing High School.
It is evident to me that obstacles can be transformed into motivation and perseverance to become something like a turbocharged engine in my life. After going through a horrible divorce, where I lost everything I had and more, I made the decision to return to California where I began many years ago. With no money in my pocket and too few options, I was starting again from zero. This time was different because the "School of Life" had already provided me with a big tool box fully stocked with a diverse set of tools such as: experience, perseverance, optimism, dedication, and self control - all ready to use as daily basic solutions in my daily walk and a life full of challenges.
I would like to become a leader in the field of composition and rhetoric. I have worked toward this goal by presenting pedagogy papers at local conferences. One of my objectives for the Ph.D. program will be to collaborate with the IUP faculty on classroom dynamics in the composition course and publish beneficial research in professional journals while continuing to present at industry conferences. My main focus will be producing classroom resources that will enrich the educational experience for students and provide cohesive teaching materials for educators. These goals would not be obtainable if I had not taken control over the wayward direction my life was heading when I was in my twenties.
The vision of reshaping the world around us and preserving this magnificent world for future generations inspires and encourages me to learn as much as I can about the earth. Studying overseas will give me an opportunity to further my academic study in a foreign country and absorb alternative view on urban and cultural geography, that’s necessary to correspond to recurring issues such as globalization, urbanization and water management. By learning how Chinese researchers, managers, and farmers habituate and respond to climate and environmental changes to make sustainable uses of water resources for both agricultural production and ecosystem protection. Since the end of my freshman year I have realized that my desire for conserving the space we utilize is a natural calling that I am destined to take, embarking on this educational journey to Beijing, China for the water resource program in the summer of 2018. I believe that I deserve this scholarship for several reasons. One of the reason to why I deserve this scholarship is because I have worked really hard to do as good as I can throughout high school. I have maintained a grade point average of a 3.214 on a 4.0 scale, and with this GPA it has landed me a spot in the top 30 percent of my graduating class. Another reason that I deserve to win this scholarship is because I have participated in activities and clubs though the school that have gained me knowledge along with the opportunity to give back to my community. For example, my participation in the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America has given me the knowledge to be a better person and has given me the opportunity to give back by
This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
