Should you go to college ? here 's some reasons why you should. Each year there are thousands of students enrolling into college hoping they will get in to learn about their dream job. Many colleges have been around for decades. Many college names like Harvard and Yale are named after men.
One of the most important things that a person can do is learn to grow. As a 6’6” high schooler, growth has always come naturally to me. Whether it be through service or leadership, or some combination of both, my goal is to develop myself as a productive member of society and to positively impact the environment that surrounds me. Considering this, my vision for my college experience is simple: become equipped to live and serve my community in and outside of my career field. Universities prepare students for work within their desired area of employment.
Why I Want to Attend College “I think a college education is important no matter what you do in life,” famed golfer Phil Mickelson once said. This reigns true for many Americans in today's society. My purpose in attending college is that I can get a degree in something I love, provide a steady and comfortable future for my family, and to engage in my community more effectively. To begin with, obtaining a degree in government has been a goal of mine since I met my Virginia House Delegate Lee Ware, when I was in middle school. Seeing his office and learning what he did and how he impacted the community that I lived in made me fall in love instantly.
College Admission Essay I feel that furthering my education will benefit me in many ways. It will afford me the opportunity to broaden my horizons. It will give me a sense of accomplishment.
Many people say, "College is what you make of it." Drexel has so many opportunities to utilize my existing skills and talents as well as acquire new ones. As a first-generation American student, I plan to take full advantage of every opportunity and experience presented to me. Coming to a new group of people is always a little scary, but I am confident in my ability to bring diversity to the campus community and make a valuable contribution with a smooth transition into college. Personal attributes of mine that will aid in my contribution to the Drexel community are my leadership skills, initiative, commitment to service, and sense of social responsibility.
Overall, I wish to attend college to better all aspects of my life. I desire to maximize my potential and work ethic to become better. Being a first generation student will not be easy, for I have no one to tell me about experiences. I am very proud and honored to tell people that I am in college.
Doing what I love and being able to support myself and loved ones is important to me. I am a very independent person and I like to do things my way. I like to set individual goals everyday, whether that means doing my homework before a certain time, or completing something for the week. They help me get my work done on time and efficiently.
From my answers to the “Knowing Yourself” survey in College Match, I learned the following: I am quite eager to attend college and will do well academically. I will adjust well and not feel a lot of social pressure as I can make up my own mind and act independently, which is good, because I seek balance between my social and academic life. I need to relate to my peers both academically and socially. I need fun and humor and a variety of activities available to me outside the classroom. I definitely need to be a big part of the college search process because I need to be excited about the college I attend.
One of the most difficult tasks to complete is the chore of studying. It takes a lot of motivation and time to read all the material for every class, not to mention learning all that information, sometimes on things you don’t necessarily want to be studying. When was a child, I used to think that I already knew it all. No book or teacher was going to help me learn what I didn’t already know. Unfortunately, I was sadly mistaken.
Attending college wasn’t an obligation of mine but a choice that I took. My reasons are probably just like everyone else’s at my age. I wanted a better life for myself in the future that didn’t involve living paycheck by paycheck. Obtaining a college degree has such a strong influence on one’s life. College has been a dream of mine since I was little.
Living in hope, with our beliefs, and with little expectation of others is the way forward. My parents, simple and honest human beings, have high expectations of me, wishing that I too, like them, grew up to be an honorable person. Martin Luther King’s life inspires the determined and I agree that to give up on life or stop is deplorable. Irrespective of the hurdles, to push ahead with all one’s might is the only way to succeed. Living this philosophy, my father, a genuine rags to riches story, altered my life, leading by example and encouraging me to follow the path of righteousness.
In choosing college, I thought about two things. First, my aim. My aim is growth. I feel greatest joy when I grow up. In my idea, two factors determine my growth: different perspectives and interaction with high-level people.
What makes people decide whether they want to go to college? Throughout school, teachers, counselors and parents always talk about college and how important it is. Parents even start funds for their kids for college while taking them on college tours and interviews. Showing and giving kids an opportunity to see what going to college will be like. There may be just as many reasons kids may not want to go to college, but with that are also some good reasons to go.
These three goals are what will make me be the man I want to be in the future. Going to college in my eyes has always been a goal that was not much of a challenge. Anyone can go to college with C’s and D’s. So I had to think of something that would make me unique, and not just that average guy who does not achieve the extra ordinary. I then thought to my self “how can I set the bar even higher”.
