In choosing college, I thought about two things. First, my aim. My aim is growth. I feel greatest joy when I grow up. In my idea, two factors determine my growth: different perspectives and interaction with high-level people. Various perspectives enable me to see the world differently, so that I become more flexible. Close relationship with amazing people change my thoughts a lot. These two elements contribute to my aim. Besides my aim, I thought about my aptitude. It is obviously science. Therefore, I wish my university to have a strong science program. When there are a variety of different perspectives, when I interact with high level people, and when the science program is both strong and practical, I feel like attending that university.
Williams incorporates variety of perspectives. Williams accepts as much as 15 percent of their students as international students, who come from more than 40 countries. This means that I could interact with a various students around the world. On the other hand, Tokyo University accepts only a few students around the world. There is the distinctive oxford-style teaching class in that university. In this class, only two students participate and one professor helps them explore a single topic very deeply. I can spend a fulfilled time discussing with a professor and that increases my chance of growth a lot. Contrary to Williams, Tokyo University does not have such a class. In fact, I hear from my senior friends that the relationship between the students and professors is very shallow because the ratio of students to faculty members is as low as 1 to 22, which is less than one-third of Williams’ ratio.
