Personal Statement: Pursuing A Degree At A Level

2016 was a significant year for the world and especially for global economics: the UK referendum vote took place resulting in the British electorate deciding (by a small majority) to leave the EU and the largest trading nation on earth, the USA, elected Donald Trump. It is clear to see that economics’ sphere of influence extends to political and social issues and is fundamentally essential to any decisions made. These two events alone have heightened my interest to study economics further and to understand the impact on our everyday lives. The fluid and dynamic nature of economics fuels my curiosity to want to learn more.

As the deputy head girl at my secondary school I represented the school and acted as an ambassador and role model throughout my conduct on a daily basis, through this duty I learnt the importance of leadership, commitment and responsibility. Outside academia I relish the opportunity of engaging in sport; I climb and have previously competed in national climbing competitions, reaching the finals of the National BMC British Youth Series 2015. A member of Haslemere Hockey Club where I attended weekly training and participated in numerous matches. During my time at the club I was awarded most improved player 2014-15. My participation in these sports has taught me to persevere, to be self-confident and competitive. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 I took part in the Rotary youth speaks competition I was awarded the prestigious ‘Best Vote of Thanks’ out of all the local competing schools .
