After graduating from Bard, I focused on rehabilitating my ankle. Thus, I became engaged in the less physically demanding position as a science tutor. Tutoring gave me valuable experience on how to communicate and teach effectively, a skill that will be beneficial when handling my teaching assignments in graduate school. Although it was quite gratifying to help fellow students through their academic struggles, I longed for the challenges of research. The accumulation of my classroom, lab, and life experiences has inspired me to continue my studies in chemistry and attend graduate school.
I aspire to study chemistry because of its essential contributions to the advancement of nanotechnology and healthcare systems. My involvement in the research lab and my senior thesis provided me with such a rigorous, yet invigorating educational experience that I long to continue in graduate school. I intend to explore my passion for understanding chemistry, biology and human diseases at Temple University. I am excited for the program’s collaboration across disciplines and vigorous research environment. I am also attracted to the flexible course schedule and dynamic faculty. I feel that my research interests are parallel to Dr. Robert Stanley, Dr. Hai-Lung Dai, and Dr. Robert J. Levis. I would like to join Dr. Stanley in his quest to understand the mechanism of DNA repair by flavoprotein using an ultrafast laser and other biochemical techniques.
