I find the graduate program at the University of Washington to be an extremely compelling and ideal location for my graduate career due to its devotion to research and competitive atmosphere. It is further captivating that the research conducted by the faculty includes grant proposals primarily funded by awards from the likes of the NIH and NSF. The countless opportunities provided by the university display the effort and attention given to cutting-edge research. It is evident that research is critical to the future of this institution and I would be honored to be a part this program. I was selected for participation in a National Science Foundation funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program hosted at the University of Utah. During the program I was introduced to many new instrumental procedures as well as synthetic methods beyond my experience at that point. The work I completed during the program in addition to my other research undertakings displays my ability to acclimate to new situations and quickly comprehend novel techniques.
