Animal Experimentation is a large controversial topic across the United States because of the harm forced upon innocent animals for the benefit of mankind’s health. The use of animals in laboratories is a common occurrence in the medical field, cosmetic industry, and in clothing production. Animals are used in experiments to test the safety, durability, and quality of many everyday products. In order to end these unethical testing methods, society must be informed of the harsh realities that include wasted profit due to expensive testing, unnecessary procedures that lead to inaccurate results, and the mental and physical abuse inflicted upon these innocent animals. To put this gruesome fact into perspective, in the lifetime of a mouse, devoted to oncology research, a range of two to four million dollars was spent on studying the positive and negative effects of certain cancer treatments. These involuntary testing subjects are tortured in order to spare our lives and this is seen by many as brash and avoidable. In 1921, there was an extremely dangerous outbreak of the paralyzing disease Polio, in the United States. Although Dr. Jonas Silk founded a cure, the process of treating many of the patients across the nation came along with the lives of 100,000 rhesus monkeys. This brings up a topic of discussion and the common question of:“Are these acts of cruelty justified?”. Certain scientists believe sacrifices, such as the monkeys in the Polio case, are not only necessary but vital to the future of humans.
