Abortion is a popular controversial topic. There are people who are against it (pro-lifers) and there are people who respect the decisions of women who get abortions (pro-choicers). The definition of an abortion is: “The removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy” (Dictionary.com). Women should have the right to choose to end a pregnancy or not. Therefore, abortion should not be made illegal due to the fact that many women will still get abortions, even illegally and some women are too young or are not emotionally prepared for a child.
Abortions should not be banned because prohibiting abortions won’t stop women from getting them. Before 1973, abortions were illegal, however, Roe v. Wade made the decision to make them legal, “On 22 January 1973 the Supreme Court of the United States handed down its ruling making abortion legal throughout the country…legal abortions reduced the medical risks of the procedure” ( Baughman, “The Abortion …show more content…

Many of the youngest women in this group (70% of those age 13 or under) report having had sex forced on them...there’s nearly 750,000 teen pregnancies a year, of the teens who become pregnant, 35% choose to have an abortion...” (Naf, “ Abortion Facts”). This shows that there are a significant amount of teenagers that have sex, the ones who choose to have an abortion should have the right be able to. We shouldn’t force teens to raise children, when they themselves are like children. Also, some of the teens were forced into having sex, we can’t make them have a baby of the men who raped them. As a final point, people who want to have a baby need to be emotionally ready. They need to want the child, if not, the child will grow up without love and care that it needs to
