Although some humans may take animal rights seriously, there is still great controversy between whether or not animals should even be given them. This topic is controversial because some humans recognize that animals are conscious and have morals, while others just see animals as entertainment and food. People do not have to be crazy animal lovers to recognize that certain things that are done to animals are simply wrong. Animals should be given rights because it has been proven that that they have a conscious, they cannot defend themselves as humans can, and people, whether we admit it or not, are animals too.
The origin of animal rights is unknown. The first known steps towards animal rights was in 1975, when Peter Singer published the book Animal Liberation. One of the first organizations that served animal rights was the Animal Legal Defense Fund, where they gathered information relevant to animal rights. Several industries have been affected positively by the animal rights movement. From agriculture to fashion to pet care, each industry has taken steps to treat animals with a greater respect, as some humans have as well.

Animals have been used for fur, leather, testing and more. In 1989, Avon stopped using animals for lab tests on their products. Following suit, Revlon did the same in 1990. In 2011, India banned the import of animals for use on cosmetic testing. On the clothing side of the situation, in 2004 clothing chain Forever 21 made a promise not to sell real fur products. Again in 2011, retailers worldwide pulled angora sweaters from their shelves, due to the cruel deaths the rabbits endure during the process of obtaining their fur. From fashion, the more domestic industry may be a bit lower on their yearly income, but they’ve made some strides as
