Against Assisted Suicide Many people believe that patients suffering terminal illnesses should be able to decide if they want to die, or have help committing suicide. Still, there are many believe that assisted suicide is immoral, and should be considered a crime. In three states alone about 2,170 people have died due to assisted suicide. In order to decrease the number of deaths we need to take action, this could mean making stricter requirements as to who is eligible for assisted suicide, or banning assisted suicide all together. The government should take action and help to decrease the number of deaths by assisted suicide. According to CNN, assisted suicide is legal in Oregon, Vermont, Washington, California, and is an option in Montana via court decision. Even though it is legal in these states, the patient must be older than eighteen, have a terminal illness with an expected less than six months to live. As stated before, over 2170 people have died as a result of assisted suicide. Gale databases states that in Oregon an estimated 1,545 people have lost their lives due to assisted suicide. In Washington around 712 people died, and in Vermont around 25 have died. In 2009 Montana passed the Rights of the Terminally Ill Act to include physician-assisted suicide. Last year California passed a law that permitted assisted suicide. The major reason that people don't support assisted suicide is because they believe that it is immoral and goes against god.
