Sure it might be a hassle to get kids to eat healthier school lunches, but is it worth it in the long run. Who wants to live a long and healthy life if so healthy lunches are the way . “Overweight children are at higher risk of developing a variety of diseases, including heart disease and diabetes” (William Rice page 1 ). This sentenced quote proves that kids who eat healthy school lunches have little or no risks than kids who do eat unhealthy school lunches by stating the consequences of unhealthy eating . Eating healthy school lunches can decrease healthy issues and save the nation millions of dollars .
Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser, discusses the changes that the United States has gone through in recent years due to the development of fast food restaurants. Fast food places have led to Americans desiring more efficiency in their lives as well as changed many of the traditional values that Americans used to have, such as family and the role that youth play in the workplace. This book also agrees with what we have been learning in class about the fact that our industrialized food production has aided in our moving from dependency on others and family to being a highly individualized society. The efficient mechanisms by which fast food places run have drastically changed American values, economy, and health.
By not spending more money on healthier food the school could spend the money on new textbooks or even tablets for students that will better their education and most likely higher grades. Consequently brightening the future and opening new doors for the students that they most likely would not have been achievable without the better education and higher grades. Another important factor that needs to be accounted for is the school environment and the mood of the school. By taking away students favorite foods it may have a very negative affect on the school.
In America, people need to be eating healthier. Most people don't know what they are putting in their mouth while others think they do but don't. The obesity rate in America is 37.5%. That means this percentage of people have a BMI over 30. That's gross!
“Food Inc.” is a documentary which uncovered the truth about food industries in America. Contrary to the images they are showing to the public, animals like cows and chickens are no longer raised on the field but in unsanitary and infectious houses. Cows are forced to eat corns instead of grass, which caused them E. coli, and instead of abandoning this new technology companies just use more chemicals to erase virus out of meat. Farmers and workers are forced to work underpaid and not allowed to talk about the companies’ policies. Slaughterhouses are getting bigger and bigger, thus it is easier for virus and bacteria to pass from one animal to the other through the hand of the workers.
Children go home sick because of the low quality lunches. If the school really cares about the welfare of their students, making a change to what they eat is a great start. If a school has unhealthy lunch, the kids might be happy for the time, but their life won’t be happy in the future when they grow up to be obese. All of this information proves that schools are a lot healthier now and they should keep it this way for many years to come. This healthy food also gives kids enough energy to get through the day. If they eat unhealthy lunches they won't have enough energy to make it through the day so they won't learn as much as they could if they eat healthy school lunches. Healthier lunches would help control kids weight because over the years obesity has grew in the population of kids and adults. Public schools in the United States has gone to health foods to control the weight of people in the population. Eating healthy is a good thing but I don’t think students should force someone to do that. With healthy lunches students will pack their lunch more ,and it will cost the schools money.
