In America, people need to be eating healthier. Most people don't know what they are putting in their mouth while others think they do but don't. The obesity rate in America is 37.5%. That means this percentage of people have a BMI over 30. That's gross! People deserve to know what they are putting in their bodies. Part of the 2010 affordable care act called for any chain with over 20 locations to label the amount of calories of all food and beverage products. This was due to go into effect in May 2014, then May 2016, then May 2017, and now it's projected to be in May 2018. When this bill ever be implemented into society. People deserve to know how many calories go into the food they eat. People should know what are the nutritional benefits or detriments of each food item they consume. By being fully informed about their choices, consumers can ideally try to make better choices on what they're eating. In 2008, when New York City mandated that all chain restaurants to post calories of menu items, the intent was to induce consumers to choose healthier items. People need to know what health issues they could be facing or hurting. There are plenty of nuts, beans and oils that could be put in your "healthy" salad or soup that are full of calories. This could be killing people and they would know to choose otherwise if this was a law. Additionally many have recently realized how unhealthy many things are that restaurants and chains have on the "healthy" side of their menu. They want to hold restaurants accountable for what their serving us. Not wonder our country is so fat, it's in part due to the foods that we thing are fine but in reality are utterly unhealthy. These are just some of the reasons why this bill or one like it needs to be passed in a timely
