Guns in Alabama Schools

“In the state of Alabama, a person gets killed by a gun every 11 hours”(Alabama Gun Violence, 2010). In 2010, 47 children aged 0-18 were killed with guns in Alabama. Alabama has one of the worst gun to murder rates in the nation and has kept this feet for over a couple years now. Alabama has a law where people are allowed to conceal guns on school campuses which does not help these numbers. Guns are being sold illegally and are being carried around campuses unlicensed. Alabama needs to make their gun laws stricter and make it so you have to buy guns from a licensed dealer and you have to have a license and a thorough background check to obtain the gun.

Also there has been cases where somebody walks into the school and starts shooting it up, that's when it comes down to the schools to have a better security system, but people still believe that they need to be able to carry a gun around wherever they go. Also people will quote the second amendment which states,” The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms.” The world has changed ever since that is made and people will defend their rights but don’t understand what that amendment means to people whose goals are to harm others. Also people can also argue that people can easily obtain guns from an illegal dealer and just go off without being caught. Lots of schools in Alabama are not safe on the inside, and if you’re letting people carry concealed weapons inside a school, that could lead to an act of violence and your school will be on national tv, “Live Scenes from Birmingham High School where a man has walked in and started shooting.” The last thing a parent wants is to here the child's school is being terrorized or even worse that their child has died. Also the age you have to be in Alabama to obtain a gun is 18, people are usually graduating high school at that age. Lots of kids go on to college and by that time they could legally have a gun, and since the state of Alabama
