Doctors and psychiatrists are too willing to place someone on medications for a quick fix. We are an overmedicated society looking for an easy answer for a solution to our problems. Research suggests that one in five Americans are diagnosed with a mental health disorder. I firmly believe that there is a mental health crisis in the United States and many people go undiagnosed. Mental health, does in my opinion, has stigmas attached to it.

It helps them think better, it also makes them not feel different from everyone else. In my opinion if Edward Bracey was on medication he wouldn’t have killed that cop he says in the article he was sorry and says “It should have never happened. I wish it had never happened.” (Brennan 2) He didn’t mean to kill anybody he was very stressed at the time as a mentally disabled person his thoughts and everything going through his mind he could not make the right
Talsma is not that well-known but within her article you will spot she used reliable information from a doctor who is certified with an M.D and other scholarly articles. This authorizes readers and students to proceed since this establishes it is a trustworthy article. This article talks about the intake of pharmaceuticals for psychological and behavioral disorders has surged in the U.S. It is said this development can be accredited to improved public awareness of mental disorders and the advantages of drug therapy. Talsma pulls out statistics from Dr. Menzina, all throughout her article, and she says that since 2001, 1 out of 5 Americans have got a mental health disorder because of all the medications being put out there.
The lack of acceptance towards mental illnesses being considered actual illnesses has left many people with a fractured truth about mental illnesses as a whole. Although society is getting better at dealing with mental illnesses, there is still the perception that mental illnesses do not need to be treated because they are not visible wounds, which is completely untrue. Both John and Kathy think like this. "... Kathy did not insist that he see a psychiatrist ad that John did not feel the need to seek help." (O'Brien 75)
The emptying of the bottle proves that mental health is left untreated in Fahrenheit 451 because the people just go through the day and then take a sleeping pill to calm their mind. This issue is also similar to the modern day because there are some powerful medications that can calm mental illness, but too much can be extremely harmful. “In the beginning of the twenty-first century psychotropic medications provide the dominant form of treatment for mental health problems, from the most to the least severe, although many professionals accept that the drugs control symptoms rather than provide cures” (Mental Health). Despite there being treatment some don't seek it. In Lee K. Lerner and Brenda Wilmoth Lerner’s article “Mental Health”, published in Gale Science Online Collection, they report that, “Mental illnesses affect tens of millions of people each year, with less than half (about 44 percent) of those people receiving any form of treatment”.
Mental illness affects many people throughout the world. Most of the time, many of the people diagnosed with the illness do not seek treatment because they are unaware that they have been diagnosed with the illness. There are several different types of mental illnesses in which a person can be diagnosed with multiple disorders at the same time. Two of the most common disorders that people struggle with are PTSD and Bipolar disorder. PTSD is also known as post traumatic stress disorder is a serious disorder that people struggle with but this disorder is when something traumatic happens in someone 's life.
I always assumed that someone’s health could only be treated by a doctor. Nonetheless, as my education flourished I soon realized that programs that focus on preventing adverse health outcomes could reduce the incidence of disease. Furthermore, public health provided the opportunity to develop prevention programs to assist those who suffered from mental illness. To learn this was not only exciting, it provided a break in the current gap of mental health prevention programs currently being offered in my county’s school districts.
Prescription drug (RX drug) advertising (ads) on television, newspapers, and magazines should be banned in the United States. Due to many reasons, including the economic and physical stress it sets on consumers who rely on prescription medications everyday. Drug prices are on the rise, as they need to support the hefty funding for nationwide commercials at prime times. RX drug ads are seen on a constant loop in American TV. Washington Post writer, Justin Moyer’s article American Medical Association Urges Ban on TV Drug Ads, states that DTC (direct to consumer) ads spending has increased by 30% to a $4.5 billion industry, resulting in a 5% increase in actual RX drugs in 2015.
When people hear the words, “mental illness,” they think of insane asylums and psychiatric wards, but that’s not necessarily the case. Yes, back in the 1800’s they did have asylums for people with mental disorders. But that was when doctors didn’t fully understand mental illnesses and disorders. But currently, doctors are able to comprehend illnesses and disorders.
The ideas that the world has about mental health nowadays does not help. By trying to prevent mental health and getting help from people who really need it is something we need to do. There needs to be an institution to help people who need it and to provide and sanctuary for the people who can not get
There is a wide misconception that pills have the ability to cure any problem. Depressed? Take a pill. Are you in pain? Here’s a bottle of Oxycodone.
Antidepressants work by balancing chemicals in the brain that affect mood and emotions. Medications are used to treat or help symptoms of depression, which help improve mood, increase concentration, etc. Many times a certain medication will not work for an individual, therefore they have to switch to a different medication until they find the right one for the patient. Therapy is also needed with taking antidepressants because it is actually providing more protection against relapse. Studies show that in taking medication and going to therapy can show a better outcome than just taking medications.
Professor Denson and fellow classmates, I do not actually have any direct quotes in my research paper to pull from for this discuss, however for this sandwich I will create some. I have never used direct quotes due to the rules and regulations around them, to me, it is easier to write my story and paraphrase as needed. This is just my way of handing, and writing, and I as we all know have no issues talking so writing is just that on paper. With that said, here goes let’s make some sandwiches (: I. Dr. Fredric Neuman (2013) in his article in Psychology Today, A Cure For Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia, states that doctors do not want to talk about cures when it comes to mental illness, when he states: “Too many illness are remitting and relapsing-that
There are more people incarcerated who have a mental illness that there are in psychiatric hospitals. (Psychology Today). Mental Health America reports that “there are more than 1.2 million people currently residing in prisons and/or jails with a mental health condition and lack of access to mental health care”. (MHA). 40% of adults with a serious mental illness will be arrested at some point in their lifetime, usually for disturbing the peace or for a petty crime which are caused by their mental illness.
