Imagine you are sitting with your best friend. She tells you that she is pregnant. But there is something off about the situation. Instead of the look of joy on her face, like any mother to be would have, she has the look of absolute horror and sadness. “What’s wrong? You should be so happy that you have a miracle growing inside you,” you say. She looks at you and says that she went to a party. As soon as she tells you that, you know why she isn’t excited that she is pregnant. “What are you going to do?” When she does not answer you know what she is thinking. You both start crying. Think about it, Love is something that all children need in order to grow. Take away the love and you do not allow the child to feel what it is supposed to feel like as they get older. In most cases of rape the victim does not get to choose if she gets pregnant from this. So her only options are to either get an abortion or have the baby and be reminded of the trauma she went through. If she chooses to have the baby she will not only be reminded of what happened to her, but she will have to explain to a child how she became pregnant when the child gets older. If the child asks about his or her father, the mother will either have to say she would not like to talk about it or explain what happened to her earlier in life that brought the baby to her. But being completely honest, it is the mother’s choice if she wants to get an abortion or not. It is not fair to criticize her for getting an abortion. Although a woman has the chance of getting pregnant due to rape it is very unlikely. When there is stress introduced to the body, especially in times of rape, the body has ways of shutting down. Even if she does get pregnant then there is a chance that she might miscarry. Although pregnancy is rare in rape situations, there is the chance a woman can get pregnant. The child would not be very happy when the father tells him why the mother is not in the picture. What is the father supposed to tell the child. “Your mother is not here with us because I raped her.’’ That would open a lot of other questions that would emotionally harm the child and not to mention it would cause emotional distress for the mother and the father. So why not let the child live with their mother? Well it would be the same situation just vice versa. In the end the child will not be happy in the family. In most cases you have to think about the well being of the child. There is not enough room in the foster system or the adoption system to allow all children to be in the system. If you have the family where the child is not happy then that child will grow up and turn to drugs or alcohol. They could even turn abusive relationships of their own. Which could eventually just repeat the entire situation over again. Some cases of pregnancy could result in the child hurting the mother not mentally but physically. Which the best case for that would be an abortion. It is not right to make someone carry a baby they do not only want but cannot carry. So why criticize someone who wants to get an
