Since its inception, Abortion has remained a heavily contested issue in our society. Imagine the waiting area for an obstetrician’s office. Numerous women, most of them pregnant, sit waiting for a chance to discuss the tiny fetus growing inside them. However, for every three women filled with joy and anticipation for their baby, one has come looking for a way to destroy it. This woman seeks an abortion, a way to escape the burden of a child. The U.S. alone preforms over one million of these horrific procedures every year. Abortion occurs for a multitude of reasons, including the mother wanting to pursue a career, disliking the timing of the pregnancy, or lacking resources to support a child. Some choose abortion because they assume their child will have no quality of life. However, they have no idea how the baby’s life will turn out, because only God knows. An unborn child could have gone on to save lives, or bring others closer to God. He could have inspired millions, or led nations. To throw all that away, simply because one disliked the timing, seems selfish. Within 8 weeks after their abortions, 55 percent of women expressed guilt, and 31% admitted to regretting their decision. (Elliot Institute) Negative feelings such as these should come as no surprise. After all, who knows what these children might have achieved had they lived? Any chance of greatness, of success, of happiness for a child leaves when one agrees to an abortion. Today’s society firmly believes that parents should not force their children into any permanent lifestyle choices, such as baptism or circumcision.
