ADHD/ADD or Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder is a behavioral disorder that affects many children, teens and adults. According to Mark Nichols “Attention Deficit Disorder May Be Caused by Stress and Bad Parenting” it is proven that ADHD/ADD is an inherited genetic condition. This disorder causes hyper behavior, trouble focusing, and bad behaviors. Many children that have this disorder have problems with social interactions. However, should these children be treated as if they have behavioral disorders or mental disorders? These disorders should be treated as mental disorders because this is a serious illness that affect children mentally. This causes forgetfulness and confusion. Although you can focus, you’re still focusing on what you want to. If the teacher is talking, but the child is playing in his or her hair, then they are not focusing on the teacher. They’re focusing on what they want to actually want to. So, is it really right for this disorder to be treated as only a behavior disorder when it is not only affecting the behavior? If a child does have ADD or ADHD and are given the medication for it, you will see a change in the way they are acting, however you can not see what is going on mentally. In conclusion, the big issue here is kids that have ADHD or ADD are being treated as behavior disorders. This is a big issue because it does not only affect their behavior, but their mentality. Kids are being prescribed medications that are not helping that big issue. The only solution to ADHD and ADD are these medications. When in reality, there should be more options rather just behaviors. If the disorder causes mental issues, there has to be a solution out there somewhere.
