The climate which prevails in our planet has made life possible as compared to the other 7 planets which don't support life. Such distinctiveness of our planet makes it very unique and in return, we have a huge responsibility of keeping it safe and sound. Yet, due to natural and man-made activities on Earth, there has been a change of patterns in our climate which is dwindling the health of the climate instead of comforting it. Due to such change in patterns over a certain geographical area, the climate becomes intolerable for the living beings and they tended to migrate from one place to another. Climate refugees face a greater political risk than the refugees due to conflict as the climate refugees are not protected by international laws. Due to the bureaucratic problems, climate refugees are not considered under the 1951 Geneva Convention which related to the status of the refugees. It is only designed to protect those who flee war, prosecution or violence. The UNHCR supports that the term "climate refugees" should not be used to address people who flee because of environmental reasons. The UNHCR already struggles to provide aid to 22.5 mill refugees due to war and prosecution. The Norwegian Refugee Council believes that creating any sort of reform in the existing refugee treaty could take decades. Due to the complexity of such laws and amendments, it would end up causing more trouble between the countries rather than forming viable solutions. New Zealand will be the first country to recognize refugees on the bases of climate change and will be creating specific visas for Pacific Islanders who need to be relocated due to the continuous rise of sea levels. Even though it sets new hopes for a positive change, mere 100 visas are to be granted annually.
