The use of cell phones while driving id extremely menacing, not only to the driver but also to the other travelers on the road. There has been a nationwide campaign advocating to regulate cell phone usage while driving. According to the National Safety Council the use of cell phones while operating a vehicle has led to at least 1.6 million crashes a year. Cell phone usage has become a national dilemma, the probability of being entangled in an accident with a distracted driver has increased tremendously. As a nation there should be a ban set in place regarding the use of cellphones while driving to ensure safety, decrease highway deaths and reduce the quantity of traffic accidents.
Ensuring safe driving on the road should be everyone’s goal. By ensuring this goal of safety can preserve thousands of lives each day. There will be less pain and agony that a family or friends would have to experience due to losing a love one in a car accident. In 2013, 3,154 people were recklessly killed due to distraction related crashes. Furthermore, 424,000 people were severely injured as a result of a distraction related crash as well. According to the National Safety Council there is currently an upward trend of traffic accidents resulting in death since 2014. By banning the use of cell phone usage will put a termination to the ongoing upward trend of deaths. There were 17,775 traffic fatalities in the first six months alone in 2016, according to the National Safety Council. By banning the use of cell phones will give the drivers a more focused drive. If the driver is solely focused on the reasonability of driving and others on the road then the chances of an accident occurring are slim to none.
